Shock wave

Shock wave therapy helps relieve acute, subacute, and chronic pain and is particularly effective when used correctly. A shock wave is a high-energy sound wave that is used as a form of therapy in numerous medical fields.

At our orthopedic practice in Palma, unlike many other orthopedists, we use a complete set of different unlike many other orthopedists, we use a complete set of different shock wave devices in order to achieve the best effect depending on the indication.

Shock wave

We have three different types of shock waves with different attachments at our disposal: radial, focused, and planar.

  • Radial shock waves (mechanical pressure waves) are introduced into the body via a freely movable handpiece and cover the entire pain zone.
  • Focused shock waves (electromagnetic waves) are short-wave and concentrated on a focus zone outside the therapy head. They are effective at depth. This penetration depth can be varied and adapted to the tissue level to be treated.
  • Planar shock waves are preferably used for the diagnosis and treatment of myofascial pain or trigger point syndrome to loosen adhesive fasciae and in wound healing.

We combine these different applications of shock waves to achieve particularly high effectiveness.

Patients often tell us that shock wave treatment did not work for them in the past. In fact, the reason is often that the shock wave may not have been positioned optimally, was applied for too short a time or at too long intervals, or consisted of only one of the three components mentioned above.

Especially in cases of chronic pain, it is crucial to give the body the necessary time to regenerate. Orthopedic conditions can be acute, subacute, or chronic. Depending on how long and how intense the symptoms are, a correspondingly long period of convalescence/recovery/healing is required. For this reason, we recommend therapy options tailored to the individual case: from a single application in acute cases, to a few days in subacute cases, to several weeks in chronic cases with two sessions per week. The success and positive feedback from our patients confirm the effectiveness of our approach.
