Elbow pain is often the result of overexertion during sports activities. However, the pain also occurs in patients who do not play golf or tennis but instead perform desk work or do housework or gardening.
We make the diagnosis based on a detailed medical history and examine where the pressure pain occurs on the elbow, check mobility, and supplement this with an ultrasound examination and, if necessary, an X-ray, should signs of wear such as osteoarthritis, calcium deposits, or loose bodies be the cause of the complaints.
As part of our holistic therapy, we inject cortisone once, provided there is inflammation. As soon as the pain has largely subsided, we begin with the actual therapy, which consists of plasma application and collagen injections in combination with shock waves, acupuncture, kinesiotapes and demonstration of stretching exercises.
With the exception of the special case of chronic elbow disease, the goal of therapy is to achieve freedom from pain. Patients have often already been to other doctors and report that shock wave therapy did not improve their condition. We use different types of shock waves with different special attachments, and we do this more frequently and at shorter intervals than many patients are used to. The feedback from patients is extremely positive, as the majority of patients report significant pain relief after just two or three shock wave treatments.
If the patient does not respond to shock wave treatment, there are either additional causes or the original diagnosis was incorrect. In this case, we investigate the cause again to determine the appropriate individual therapy—and thus relieve the patient of their symptoms.
Once the orthopedic treatment has been successfully completed, the patient can often actively contribute to maintaining the long-term success of the treatment by doing exercises on their own. I will demonstrate various exercises for you to do on your own. In addition, the physiotherapy team at our practice is available to you and can be seamlessly integrated into the individual (follow-up) treatment if desired.
