Chirotherapy/manual medicine

As part of chiropractic therapy, we palpate vertebral joint blockages and hardened muscles, check for restricted movement, and then targetedly adjust the respective vertebral joints, provided that there is no significant pre-existing damage, especially in the cervical spine. Various techniques are used not only on the spine but also on other joints.

We have many years of experience and perform multiple chiropractic manipulations, mobilizations, and deblocking procedures on patients every day. Patients who have actually just strained themselves are the exception rather than the rule. That is why it is important to clarify whether the blockage has occurred frequently or has been present for a long time.

Many patients suffer from vertebral joint blockages in different areas in combination with wear and tear. In most cases, there is also muscular tension, so that chiropractic manipulation alone is of little benefit, as the muscle will pull the joint back in the wrong direction. After a short time – this can be minutes, hours, or even days – the patient will have the same problem again.

It is therefore crucial to recognize the connections and work on the cause. Once the cause has been remedied, there should be fewer blockages over time. The most common but unfortunately rather rare causes include: incorrect lifting, bending, carrying, and drafts. In most cases, this is a one-time blockage that can be remedied with a single treatment. Recurring blockages or permanent blockages are usually caused by wear and tear. Chiropractic treatment alone is of little use here, as the symptoms either do not return at all or return very quickly. In this case, a holistic therapy that addresses the cause must be applied.

For example, migraines that have existed for years or recurring headaches or dizzy spells can originate in the cervical spine.

The cause is usually wear and tear on the spine, both on the intervertebral discs and on the vertebral joints, in combination with static and/or functional asymmetry of the spine. However, muscular imbalance can also be the cause of recurrent or permanent blockages.

This underscores the holistic approach of our chiropractic treatment, which consists of more than just mobilization and manipulation, i.e., “adjust”.
